Free Seting Network Diagnostic Tools
- ping
- trace-route
- host
- dig
- netstat
- gnome-netool(GUI)
A number of network Diagnostic tools are available:
ping
Detects if it is possible to communicate with another system.Many systems no longer respond to pings.
Displayed the computer through which a packet must pass to reach another system.The mtr command is a repetitive version of trace-route,giving continually updated connection time statistics.
host
Performs hostname to IP address translations,as well as the revers.
dig
Performs a service similar to host in greater detail.
netstat
Provides a number of network statistics.
gnome-netool(GUI)
A graphical fronted to the tools listed above in a single,simple interface.Gnome-nettool can be run from the command line or by selecting its icon from the Internet section of the Application menu.Note that this tool may not be installed by default.
